Okay, so at the start of this Blog series I said that I was going to post a blog every night during the week but unfortunately the last two days I haven't had the time to commit to this. Friday night I would have posted about day 5 of the program but because of skipping a few of the meals a couple of days during the week I didn't really have much to talk about food wise until the dinner of that night. I was also working on Friday night until 9pm which meant that I didn't get to eat my dinner until I got home at around quarter past nine, understandably so by this time I was not in the mood to be writing a blog and rather hang out at home with Chae by my side.
That's not to say that Friday night's dinner wasn't great because it was. Steak and Cauliflower Hash was on the menu. As I was at work Chae cooked for us, the cauliflower has had onion, bacon, cauliflower, paprika, garlic and lemon juice. Chae also decided to add in a pinch of chili powder for a little bit of spice in the mix, the steaks didn't ask for any flavorings but Chae decided to add some garlic powder for some more flavor... we love garlic. |
Okay so Saturday was Valentine's Day, this mornings breakfast was Bacon and Eggs with Fruit. Pretty self explanatory really... We had our eggs scrambled and had a banana each as our fruit on the side.
Chae and I aren't exactly homebodies when it comes to the weekend, we usually like to head out and have a late breakfast/early lunch. None of us had made any plans for Valentine's Day so we spent most of our morning figuring out what we were going to do. We finally made our choice and made our way into Westfield Miranda and found a place to both get a massage. By the time we got out of our respective massages it was 3pm and we were hungry for lunch. We thought that we could go somewhere and order as Paleo as we could. I had a lamb and pumpkin salad which I ordered without Tatziki, Chae ordered his usual meal from the cafe which is a southern style Chicken w/ Slaw & Sweet Potato fries. This was relatively Paleo although I think the chicken was coated in flour and the sweet potato fries? Who knows what type of oil they were cooked in. We also both had a fresh juice each.
We had a lazy afternoon together at home and then had to leave to go to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb, we didn't have dinner because of our late lunch.

After our late night on the Harbour Bridge last night Chae and I woke up late this morning, our breakfast was the left over cauliflower and bacon hash with eggs. The hash was great the second time but then again, aren't most meals better the second time round?
So what have I learnt about Paleo So Far?
This morning Pete Evans posted a great article on Facebook from the Brisbane Courier Mail about a positive journalistic view of the Paleo lifestyle. Jill Hogan, started eating Paleo when she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. Through her discovery, she found that after a year eating Paleo that her test results had improved. She noted in her article that she was doing it her own way and still eats some non-Paleo foods.
And for those of us who find certain foods that do work for us that aren't strictly "paleo", it's just a matter of incorporating that in.
Personally, I also eat quinoa, oats, goat's cheese, buckwheat and corn regularly, and Evans is all for this.
There are a couple of things that I have learnt throughout this past week of the Paleo Restart program. Chae and I most days don't get home until late in the afternoon meaning that preparing a meal as per a prescribed recipe can be hard especially when cooking times can sometimes be longer then 30 minutes. On college days I also wake up very early so cooking bacon and eggs most mornings isn't exactly a viable option.
Chae and I discussed how we liked eating Paleo but we didn't like that we were so restricted to eat a certain meal on a particular day, what also made us a little uneasy about the program was that when we saw the next week's shopping list and meals that we needed to make roast a chicken on a Wednesday night. We also realised that, being created in America, they have a rather different culture where foods are prepared to high standards and this just doesn't suit our busy lifestyle.
We have decided to take ques from Jill Hogan and eat the foods that sit well with us while still practicing Paleo at the same time.
As I think I posted on my first blog about the Paleo Restart program, our first shop took us to $240.00, I deem this to be quite an expensive shop. Our shop today only turned out to be $140.00 which is a little bit nicer on our hip pocket. We still bought the fruit, vegetables and meat but all of the foods that we wanted to eat.
Now because Chae and I won't be following the Paleo Restart program doesn't mean that I won't be posting anymore about our progress eating Paleo, I just won't be posting as often. Tonight Chae is cooking the last dinner on this weeks Paleo Restart program which is a Chili Paleo burgers and Sweet Potato Fries, Paleo wise this is an open burger.
